About the role
The Financial Controller supports the Director of Finance in the effective management of the College's financial operations. As a senior member of the Finance team, the role oversees day‐to‐day accounting functions, supervises Finance Officers, and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial processes and reporting.
The Financial Controller operates with a high degree of autonomy while providing critical operational and analytical support to enable strategic financial decision‐making across the College.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the day‐to‐day financial operations of the College, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
* Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
* Analyse financial performance and provide insights to support decision‐making and operational planning
* Support the implementation of financial strategies, policies, and plans
* Coordinate and maintain accounting systems, ensuring effective internal controls and data integrity
* Ensure compliance with accounting standards and relevant financial legislation, including tax and superannuation obligations
* Support audit processes, including preparing documentation and liaising with external auditors
* Oversee payroll, accounts payable, and receivable functions to ensure accurate and timely transactions
* Monitor cash flow and assist in managing financial risks
* Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and review of the annual budget and forecasts
* Assess financial aspects of operational initiatives and capital expenditure proposals
* Supervise Finance Officers, including allocating work, monitoring performance, and supporting capability development
* Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and systems
* Provide financial guidance and support to staff across the College
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, or a related field
* Significant experience in a senior finance role
* Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial compliance requirements, and reporting obligations
* Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
* Proven ability to lead and manage staff, including supporting performance and building capability
* Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Ability to provide clear and practical financial advice to senior stakeholders
