Communications Officer role in State Government. 5-month contract, immediate start, health-focused work.

Your new company

A government department with a strong focus on public health and community wellbeing is seeking a Communications Officer to join their team on a 5-month temporary contract. This role is ideal for a creative, digitally savvy communications professional who can deliver bold, engaging campaigns that drive awareness, spark conversation and cut through online.

Your new role

Working closely with the Communications Manager, you will support the planning, delivery and reporting of integrated communications, marketing and health promotion campaigns. You'll play a hands-on role across digital channels, creating and managing content that captures attention and delivers impact. This includes executing organic and paid social media activity, coordinating campaigns and events, managing briefs and budgets, tracking and reporting on performance, and ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.

You will also coordinate photo and video shoots, work with external suppliers such as designers and editors, contribute to the development of campaign resources and collateral, and deliver regular digital newsletters. This role requires creativity, organisation and the ability to move quickly in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.

What you'll need to succeed

* A diploma or higher qualification in Marketing, Communications or a related field
* Strong experience across digital, social and event marketing, including paid and organic social
* Proven content writing and editing experience across newsletters, campaigns and digital assets
* High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, with working knowledge of WordPress and Microsoft tools
* Experience briefing and managing external suppliers and consultants
* Understanding of public sector or health-related communications environments
* Awareness of sensitive or complex health topics and the ability to communicate them effectively and respectfully
* Immediately available and able to commit to the duration of the contract
* A current DHS Working With Children Check (WWCC) or the ability to obtain one immediately

What you'll get in return

You'll work within a collaborative and purpose-led government team delivering meaningful health communications. This full-time, 5-month temporary role offers an hourly rate equivalent to an AS03/4 depending on experience and requires an immediate start.
