Senior Clinician Role


Job Description:

This is a senior clinician role that offers the opportunity to participate in the development and operation of a statewide tertiary clinical consultation and liaison service. The service aims to support NSW public inpatient services caring for people experiencing extreme behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.

The team comprises a full-time CNC, a full-time senior occupational therapist, and a part-time staff specialist. The team receives added support and guidance from the Older People's Mental Health Service based in Western Sydney Local Health District and the NSW OPMH Policy Unit.

As a senior clinician, you will be expected to take part in planning and service development. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to provide tertiary level consultative services to NSW public inpatient services caring for people experiencing extreme BPSD.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
* Certificate in Old Age Psychiatry.
* Sound clinical knowledge in Old Age Psychiatry and experience working with and providing clinical consultation/liaison to services caring for people with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia.
* Ability to travel across various Local Health District Regions and provide team-based CL services within inpatient settings.
* Sound knowledge of principles of Recovery based clinical practice and integrated Mental Health Care.
* Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including high level interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team, experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice, demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision, and familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

* The position requires the successful applicant to hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license if applicable and to possess Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
