The Opportunity

Located only 5 km west of Melbourne on the bank of Maribyrnong River, the Maribyrnong LGA is the gateway to Melbourne\'s western suburbs. With a rich cultural history, Maribyrnong is home to a diverse community and is one of the densest urban areas in metropolitan Melbourne.

Maribyrnong City Council is seeking a passionate Urban Designer to join its City Design team. This is a chance to grow your career in a vibrant city location of Footscray in a multi-disciplinary organisation.

Key Responsibilities

The Urban Designer will play an important role in pursuing design excellence across Council. The role will be responsible for bringing about positive change in the City through the design advice, advocacy, projects and policies delivered from within the City Design unit of Council.

The role will be involved in project management that relates to the design and delivery of key capital projects urban design analysis; and preparation of masterplans and frameworks, feasibility studies; development and input into policies, strategies and technical guidelines; feasibility studies, referrals from other Council branches for design advice.

The role will require a cross departmental approach, covering a wide range of, planning, design, infrastructure and community planning initiatives.

The Urban Designer will provide design advice to internal and external stakeholders and assist in identifying practical and affordable ways of improving the built environment of the City, in particular through Council\'s facilities program, capital works program and through the development of urban design policies.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

- Tertiary qualification in architecture, urban design and / or landscape architecture.
- Experience as an urban designer within local/state government or private industry with a sound understanding of the frameworks in which government operates.
- Valid Working with Children Check
- No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
