Your New Role:
Reporting to the Development Services Manager, the Development Engineer plays a key role in assessing, coordinating, and approving development proposals to ensure compliance with engineering, environmental, and infrastructure standards. This role works closely with planners, developers, consultants, and internal stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable outcomes for the community.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing professional advice, support and guidance to internal and external stakeholders with respect to the engineering aspects of development to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, industry best practice and Council's requirements.
* Assessing, determining and issuing development related applications including construction certificates, and compliance certificates under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
* Inspecting, monitoring, auditing and reporting on subdivision and development projects to ensure compliance with relevant requirements.

About You:
You are a collaborative and detail-oriented engineer who understands the complexities of development in a local government environment and is motivated by contributing to community outcomes.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will possess:
* Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline, and/or demonstrated experience and capability performing duties at a comparable professional level;
* Highly developed written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills including problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution; and
* Demonstrated computer skills including CAD applications, engineering software (Drains, Hecras etc) GIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
Whilst not considered essential requirements of the role, the following experience is highly desirable and would be considered an advantage:
* Demonstrated experience in engineering/technical development functions of a Local Government or private consultancy, including the assessment and supervision of engineering aspects of land development;
* Experience in the assessment of development related applications including development applications, construction certificates, subdivision certificates, water supply/sewerage/stormwater drainage work, and works/structures within a public road;
* Good working knowledge of geotechnical and flooding principles as applicable to land development
* Demonstrated knowledge and application of engineering design and construction techniques associated with development including stormwater, on-site detentions, bioretentions, road, transport, environmental practice, water sensitive urban design and total water cycle management principles.
