Design Lead Role
You will join a high-performing business that blends editorial heritage with digital innovation, shaping how our readers experience our journalism from print to audio to world-class digital and native app destinations.
This role is critical to embedding design thinking across the organisation and creating user-first solutions that are intuitive, impactful and aligned with business needs. You will lead a small team of three other designers and work closely with cross-functional teams including newsroom leadership, product managers, engineers and marketers to deliver best-in-class digital experiences that inform, engage and delight our audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design of high-impact features across web and mobile platforms.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams - Product Engineering, Editorial and Marketing to deliver user-centred, data-informed solutions.
* Drive design strategy for complex content-driven ecosystem with subscription and membership elements.
* Presentation of work and design rationale for senior stakeholders and guidance for junior designers when required.
* Support the design team in delivering strategic outcomes by clarifying goals and guiding product experience to meet strategic objectives.
* Larger-scale research plans and design initiatives development for meaningful outcome-focused work.
* UX metrics monitoring for positive outcomes for both users and the business.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor or Master's degree in relevant field such as Interaction Design, User Experience (UX) Design, Product (UX/UI) Design, Industrial Design or related discipline.
2. 5-10 years of experience in product design preferably within content-rich or subscription-based platforms.
3. Agile and Lean UX methodologies knowledge.
4. A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design across mobile and web surfaces ideally with measurable impact.
5. Deep understanding of design systems, interaction design and user research methodologies.
6. Ability to collaborate across disciplines and advocate for user needs while balancing business objectives.
7. Agile team collaboration confidence and contribution to iterative product development.
8. Advanced computer/software skills in Slack, Jira, Confluence, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and digital whiteboarding software such as Mural or Miro.
9. Knowledge and ability to rapidly acquire an understanding of news and media industries.
10. Interest in AI transformation for design workflows.
