The Role:
As Head of Merchandise (SMGB), you will shape the end to end Gift Box product strategy, turning customer insight into a compelling, commercially successful range. This role leads buying, planning and product development to deliver an offer that drives growth, strengthens market share, and resonates with a broad customer base. It's a rare opportunity to influence a national retail brand through data led decision making, creativity, and strong commercial leadership.
You Will Provide:
* Leadership of the Gift Box merchandise, buying, and planning teams, ensuring capability and alignment to business strategy.
* Development and ownership of the Gift Box range plan, pricing approach, and overall product lifecycle.
* Strong commercial decision making to deliver sales, margin and stock turn.
* Effective supplier management, including negotiation, contract management, and optimising trading terms.
* Collaboration with Marketing, Operations, Digital, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless in store and online execution.
* Oversight of inventory health, including stock flow, aged inventory, and markdown strategies.
* Insights-driven planning and reporting to support trading actions and continuous improvement.

About You:
* Significant experience in retail merchandise leadership, ideally within buying or category management.
* Strong buying skills, including supplier sourcing, negotiation, and commercial agreement management.
* Proven commercial acumen with the ability to interpret financial and trading metrics to drive performance.
* Experience developing product ranges, pricing structures, and product lifecycle management.
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across multiple functions.
* Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop high‑performing teams.
* Supply chain understanding is advantageous but not essential.
