We are looking for a team of Support Workers who have experience in supporting people with psychosocial, cognitive developmental or neurodivergent presentation as this young eight-year-old boy has complex support needs (L3 autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Intellectual Disability). He also needs patient and extremely resilient Support Workers who approach challenges with an open mind and non-judgemental approach.
He attends school during the day, and supports are mainly required after school, on weekends, and during school holidays. The focus of this role is supporting him to access his community, manage transitions, and build functional skills and independence over time. This is not an in home only role. The goal is to help him safely participate in everyday life, going places, trying activities, and having experiences that were not previously available to him.
… but what an opportunity to be an important part in this young boy’s development into adolescence. In partnership with his supportive and loving family, the potential to be an integral part of the wrap around supports to build the capacity and quality of life for him and his family is one of those opportunities that rarely comes for Support Workers. You will be set up for success through hands on guidance and training from a highly experienced Behaviour Support Practitioner, Support Coordinator and Allied Services, not to mention your Support Specialist who will be your mentor in the role.
If you want to be part of an opportunity to be a positive influence on a young person who needs support, mentoring and structure then we want to hear from you
Proposed roster is as follows (may be subject to change): Tuesday and Thursday 3pm to 6pm and Saturday 08:30am to 11:30am. Potentially Monday and Friday too. During school holidays, hours increase, with availability Monday to Friday and shifts of up to five hours per day. There is some flexibility with weekend and holiday hours
About the Role
You will be supporting a bright, energetic young child who requires a high level of structure, patience, and informed, trauma aware engagement. This is a role for someone who is confident, calm, and capable in complex environments.
A typical shift might involve supporting him after school with the transition into home or community activities, going to the pool, doing an activity together, or spending time on something like drawing or water play. Some shifts are busy and active. Others are quieter and focused on regulation and connection.
The work is hands on and requires you to be engaged, present, and responsive. You will be supporting emotional regulation, maintaining safety in community settings, and helping him build confidence and everyday skills.
Community access will be at a 2:1 ratio to support safety planning.
