Job Summary

Safeguards delivers a 6‐week intensive, therapeutic outreach program designed to engage and support some of our most vulnerable infants, children and adolescents, particularly those who face barriers to accessing traditional clinic‐based services. Embedded within Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (iCAMHS), the program is supported by a highly skilled and multidisciplinary team with strong expertise in infant and child mental health.

This position plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal children, young people, families and carers engaged with Safeguards, while also strengthening the cultural responsiveness and safety of mental health services across the District. The role sits within a large, well‐established Aboriginal Mental Health team across South Western Sydney LHD, offering strong professional and cultural peer support.

As part of a growing network of Senior and Principal Aboriginal Health Workers, this role provides cultural leadership, guidance and support to Aboriginal Mental Health Workers across the Macarthur to Wingecarribee region, contributing to service development, community partnerships and improved outcomes for Aboriginal consumers and families.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide culturally responsive, trauma‐informed and recovery‐oriented care for Aboriginal children, adolescents and families in mental health, wellbeing or community‐based settings.

- Foster culturally safe workplaces and build workforce capability through mentoring and professional support to Aboriginal Mental Health staff.

- Work confidently within multidisciplinary teams and take a proactive role in strengthening relationships with Aboriginal community‐controlled organisations, service partners and stakeholders.

- Advocate, support staff, and influence systems to create lasting positive outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people and their families.

Required Qualifications and Experience
* Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (genuine occupational requirement).
* Senior AHW: Holds a Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Care or equivalent, or relevant experience.
* Principal AHW: Holds a university degree and willing to obtain a postgraduate qualification relevant to Mental Health.
* Demonstrated understanding of factors influencing Aboriginal health, especially social and emotional wellbeing.
* Experience delivering culturally responsive services, including leadership in service development and evaluation.
* Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, conduct culturally informed assessments, coordinate care, and communicate clearly with clients, families and service providers.
* Strong written, verbal and computer skills.
* Current Australian C‐Class driver's license (or willingness to obtain one within 3 months).
Eligibility & Additional Requirements

- A current influenza (flu) vaccination is a mandatory requirement for appointment to this position.

- All staff must meet NSW Health's vaccination and screening requirements before starting.

- South Western Sydney Local Health District is dedicated to a child‐safe environment, and all staff are expected to prioritize the safety, welfare, and well‐being of children and young people.

* One extra day off each month for full‐time employees.
* Flexible work options, including hybrid and varied hours.
* Paid maternity and parental leave.
* Generous leave options: long service and carers leave.
* Access to learning opportunities via Education and Organisational Development team.
* Discounted gym membership through Fitness Passport.
* Free and confidential support for staff and families via Staff Wellbeing and Support Service (EAP).
