Senior Occupational Therapist - Flexible Community Role

* Full-time
* State: QLD
* Job Status: Full Time

At Ability Action Australia, we are proud to be a national NDIS provider, supporting thousands of participants in over 300 locations across Australia. Our team delivers Allied Health services including Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Behaviour Support, Psychology, Exercise Physiology and Physiotherapy.

Take the next step in your OT career and help grow a high‐quality community service in Cairns.

Are you an Occupational Therapist with 2–5 years' experience who's ready for more autonomy, influence, and impact? Do you enjoy working in the community and want the opportunity to shape services, mentor others, and build something meaningful without stepping away from clinical work?

At Ability Action Australia, we're offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced OT to play a key role in growing and strengthening our Cairns service, while still doing what you love: delivering great outcomes for NDIS participants.

Why Join Ability Action Australia?

* Flexibility That Works for You Full‐time or part‐time options, flexible days, and autonomy to design a caseload that suits your strengths and interests.
* Strong Remuneration & Tools Industry‐leading salary, kilometre reimbursement, laptop, smartphone, and generous salary packaging.
* True Work–Life Balance Enjoy a blended model of working from home, in the community, and in clinic or office, with control over how your week looks.
* Career Progression & Leadership Pathways Perfect for OTs ready to step up— with opportunities to mentor junior clinicians, contribute to service development, and influence how care is delivered locally.
* Professional Development PD allowance, tailored learning pathways, and access to ongoing development through Ability Action Australia and MedHealth.
* Clinical & Peer Support Structured onboarding, regular clinical supervision, and collaboration within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
* Additional Benefits Option to purchase extra leave, plus a generous staff referral program.
* Purpose‐Driven Culture Be part of a values‐led organisation making a real difference in the lives of NDIS participants and the wider community.

About the Role

As a key OT within our Cairns team, you will:

* Manage a community‐based caseload aligned to your clinical interests and experience
* Conduct comprehensive assessments across emotional, cognitive, developmental, psychosocial, and physical domains
* Develop and implement individualised, evidence‐based therapy plans
* Provide environmental modification recommendations for homes, schools, workplaces, and supported living environments
* Prescribe and support the implementation of Assistive Technology (AT) to promote independence and participation
* Work collaboratively with families, support coordinators, and other health professionals
* Contribute to service growth in Cairns, including mentoring, knowledge‐sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives
* Ensure compliance with NDIS guidelines and relevant legislation

What You'll Bring

* Current AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist
* 2–5 years of post‐graduate experience, ideally within disability or community settings
* Strong communication skills and confidence working with complex presentations
* A proactive, client‐centred approach and desire to help grow local services
* Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a team culture
* Interest in a preferred caseload area (e.g. paediatrics, complex needs, functional capacity assessments) — we'll tailor this together

Ready to Take Action?

If you're an experienced OT looking to broaden your impact, grow your career, and help shape services in Cairns, Ability Action Australia offers the support, flexibility, and opportunities to do just that.

Our fast‐growing team of more than 3,500 people around Australia represent a huge array of life experiences, skills and ways of thinking. We value all these differences.
