About the role

The Faculty of Design and Society at UTS is seeking a Post Doctoral Research Associate to join an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Project investigating the social and architectural histories of housing on Aboriginal reserves in New South Wales.

This is a part time (0.6 FTE), fixed term appointment for up to two years, offering an excellent opportunity for an early, mid career or experienced researcher to strengthen their academic profile through collaboration on a high quality, cross disciplinary research project.

About the project

The project brings together researchers from history, architecture, anthropology and geography to examine archival, visual and qualitative records of Aboriginal housing, with a strong emphasis on Indigenous led research practices and data governance.The project team includes Dr Campbell Drake (UTS), Prof. Kirsten Thorpe (UTS), Dr Tim O’Rourke (UQ) and Prof. John Evans (Swinburne University of Technology), and is delivered in partnership with the Powerhouse Museum, the National Indigenous Australians Agency, and the National Archives of Australia.

About you

You are a post doctoral researcher with:

* A PhD (or equivalent research experience) in history, anthropology, geography, architecture, or a related discipline
* Demonstrated experience in archival and/or qualitative research
* A developing track record of scholarly publications
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work respectfully in cross cultural research contexts

Specialist knowledge of Indigenous studies or the built environment is welcome but not essential.

Key responsibilities

Working closely with the Chief Investigators, you will:

* Undertake archival and desktop research on housing, planning, First Nations history, and relevant policy and political contexts
* Collate and analyse historical records, including images, maps, architectural and policy materials
* Contribute to qualitative fieldwork, including community forums and the recording of oral histories

• Support project administration, documentation and reporting• Contribute to scholarly publications, symposia and public facing outputsShort periods of funded travel may be required.

A Sydney based candidate is preferred due to the location of archives, partners and fieldwork.

Remuneration

Base Salary Range: $94,152 - $114,672 (Level A) pro-rata

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is part-time (0.6FTE) and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for up to two years.
