About The Role
This exciting and challenging role is responsible for ensuring the operational fleet is properly maintained to support the delivery of waste removal and cleansing services across the Port Phillip community. It plays a vital part in keeping the Street & Beach, Waste Management, and Resource Recovery equipment running efficiently. The role also provides essential fleet maintenance support for some of the largest, most complex, and high-profile services delivered by Council.
The Supervisor Fleet Maintenance tradesperson plays a vital role in day-to-day operations across a number of service units including but not limited to Street and Beach Services and Waste Management services.
Duties
* Provide maintenance, servicing and repairs to operational fleet in a highly dynamic service environment.
* Diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, components, electrical and fuel systems
* Perform tune ups, brake jobs and other preventative maintenance on street and beach equipment
* Ability to perform complex diagnostic procedures on all vehicle systems and determine appropriate maintenance and repairs
* Effectively use hand tools and automotive diagnostic equipment
* Cleaning and maintaining the vehicle and following all plant maintenance and reporting procedures
* Maintain and update asset service documentation.
* Minimise running costs by undertaking preventative maintenance work
* Source parts and external service contractors as required
* Attend offsite vehicle /plant breakdowns as and when required
* Maintain the mechanic workshop in a clean and safe condition
* Assist with the evaluation and road testing of plant and equipment
* Assist all other employees within the unit as required
* Participate in induction and training programs as required
* Other duties as directed within the skills and abilities of a position at this level
Skills And Experience
* Trade qualifications and experience in service and maintenance of heavy plant and equipment, passenger vehicles and small plant and equipment. (This includes work on petrol and diesel motors, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, work with electronic equipment, electric and electronic components and transmissions, consistent with the range of Council's specialist plant and equipment);
* Ability to organise workloads to achieve the objectives of the position
* Experienced in the operation of specialised machinery such as milling machine and lathe
* Competent in welding with both mig and arc welders
* Current drivers and HR truck licenses (required), Front End Loader, Forklift Licence (Desirable)
* Ability to perform complex diagnostic procedures on all vehicle systems and determine appropriate maintenance and repairs
* Understanding of vehicle safety standards and compliance with government departments
