Overview
We are seeking a caring and compassionate Consultant Physician in Palliative Care to contribute to the health and wellbeing of a rural community in the Great Southern region.
Sessional appointment at 0.40 FTE (32 hours per fortnight), permanent or fixed‐term basis, with potential extension.
Potential increase in FTE subject to approval of additional funding.
Sessional Year 1 compensation: $790.09 – $1,003.40 per session (four hours).
Location
Albany Health Campus – modern 130‐bed hospital serving 80,000 residents in Albany and the Great Southern Region. New 32‐bed ward scheduled for completion early 2027. Provides regional resource centre and secondary referral services with over 30,000 acute presentations annually.
About the Role
The WACHS Great Southern multidisciplinary palliative care team provides consultation services and some direct patient care across patients' homes, hospitals in the region, and residential aged care facilities. Specialist services are delivered in person via fly‐in/fly‐out or drive‐in/drive‐out regional visits, supplemented by telehealth, email and telephone support.
Position works closely with the Director of Palliative Care to ensure governance of regional services and undertakes the following tasks.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership in the provision of comprehensive palliative care services within the Great Southern region.
* Collaborate with regional palliative care medical officers, local GPs and the team to develop care plans for patients with complex needs.
* Develop capacity in the regional team for high‐quality palliative care delivery.
* Assist in team activities across teaching, supervision and quality improvement.
Qualifications
* Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia without restrictions.
* Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or Royal Australasian College of Palliative Medicine (FRAChPM), or equivalent postgraduate training.
* Demonstrated skills in coordinating medical care for complex conditions.
Note: the position does not support supervision for trainees or SIMGs. Candidates must practise independently without clinical supervision.
