Job Title: Mixed Crop Manager
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Crop Production Manager to oversee the planning, organization, and execution of crop production on our commercial agricultural property. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient and sustainable management of land, resources, equipment, and labor to meet productivity and quality targets.
1. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in managing diverse crop production on a commercial scale, with strong knowledge of crop husbandry practices, irrigation systems, and machinery use.
2. They will also possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in variable weather conditions and adapt to seasonal demands.
In addition to your technical expertise, you will have a proven track record of successfully managing seasonal staff and contractors, and will be proficient in farm management software and data analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement crop production plans for cereals, legumes, oilseeds, vegetables, or other seasonal crops.
* Monitor soil conditions and manage soil fertility through appropriate tillage, fertiliser, and crop rotation strategies.
* Oversee planting, irrigation, crop maintenance, harvesting, and post-harvest processing activities.
* Manage pest and weed control programs using integrated pest management (IPM) principles.
* Analyse yield and production data to inform decisions for crop planning and productivity improvements.
* Maintain farm equipment and coordinate servicing and repairs.
* Supervise and coordinate the activities of farm workers, contractors, and seasonal labourers.
* Monitor compliance with workplace health and safety regulations and environmental policies.
* Keep records of crop production, inputs, and costs for budgeting, auditing, and reporting purposes.
* Liaise with suppliers, agronomists, government bodies, and other stakeholders.
Requirements:
* Minimum 2 years' experience in managing diverse crop production on a commercial scale.
* Strong knowledge of crop husbandry practices, irrigation systems, and machinery use.
* Demonstrated experience in managing seasonal staff and contractors.
* Good understanding of Australian biosecurity, WHS, and environmental regulations.
* Proficient in farm management software and data analysis.
* Excellent planning, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work in variable weather conditions and adapt to seasonal demands.
