The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Director of Operations to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

The Director Operations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health will be an experienced manager and influential leader who is able to work in partnership with other areas of the Hospital and Health Service, Queensland Health, and the sector, to deliver equitable performance and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In this position, you will operationally manage a team and report to the Executive Director, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. The position will actively lead and contribute to the development and the implementation of strategies and plans to develop the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and medical workforce, working closely with professional leads in medical, nursing and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specific Health Workforce.

In this role you will lead and oversee development and implementation of strategic and operational priorities that focus on Closing the Gap, Health Equity systems management and continual quality improvements that support and guide clinical decision making and evidenced based best practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care. You will lead and manage a range of initiatives and projects to raise the cultural capability of the Health Service and actively participate in the development and the implementation of the Mackay HHS Health Equity Strategy. The role will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the development and implementation of whole-of-government initiatives in partnership with government, non-government and community sector agencies who deliver services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit is an essential element of the Mackay Hospital and Health Service support services and ensures the development and delivery of culturally appropriate services and models of health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families.

Mackay Hospital and Health Service has 6 hospitals, 2 multi-purpose health services and 4 community health centres that employ more than 3,700 staff. The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2 and provides services to patients and their families in Bowen, Cannonvale, Clermont, Collinsville, Dysart, Glenden, Mackay, Middlemount, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina.
