Hoffmann Reed has been exclusively engaged by Metro South Health, one of Queensland’s largest and most respected public healthcare providers, to undertake the search for their next Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO will lead strategic and operational performance across Metro South’s extensive hospital and community healthcare network, including five major hospitals and a broad range of community, mental health, oral health and statewide specialist services, supporting one of Australia’s fastest growing and most diverse populations.
About the opportunity
Reporting to the Health Service Chief Executive, you’ll be working in a high calibre executive team in a collegiate environment with the following responsibilities:
* Providing strategic and operational leadership across Metro South Health’s hospital and health service network
* Driving service excellence, operational performance, patient safety and continuous improvement initiatives
* Leading a portfolio comprising Princess Alexandra Hospital, Logan and Beaudesert Health Service, Bayside Health Service, QEII Jubilee Hospital, Addiction and Mental Health Services, Community and Oral Health Services and key clinical support functions
* Overseeing a workforce of more than 15,000 FTE employees and operational budgets exceeding $3.8B AUD
* Partnering with executive, clinical and government stakeholders to deliver strategic healthcare outcomes and system‑wide improvements
* Driving innovation, service transformation and sustainable healthcare delivery models across a highly complex environment
* Providing expert advice and evidence-based insights to the Executive Leadership Team, Board and senior stakeholders on operational performance, planning and healthcare strategy
About you
We are seeking motivated professionals with:
* Proven executive leadership experience within a large and complex healthcare or similarly scaled service environment
* A strong track record delivering operational excellence, strategic transformation and sustainable performance outcomes
* Exceptional leadership capability across large multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments
* Highly developed commercial, financial and performance management expertise
* Demonstrated experience leading large-scale service delivery improvement and innovation initiatives
* Outstanding communication, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to engage effectively across government, executive and clinical settings
* A values-based leadership style aligned to integrity, accountability, collaboration and excellence
