About The Role
As a Dive Guide/Instructor, you will lead and coordinate daily dive operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety and service. Your responsibilities will include gear preparation, cylinder filling, and equipment maintenance (if trained to do so), while guiding divers in line with relevant agency standards. Through effective communication, teamwork and professionalism, you'll contribute to smooth and enjoyable tour and training operations.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Coordinate daily dive activities, including equipment setup such as the number and type of dive cylinders required for daily activities along with fulfilling specific requests (e.g. Nitrox, DIN, steel)
* Assess equipment required for tour or training sessions, ensuring availability of items at vessel or classroom location
* Carry out tour pre-departure tasks including vehicle inspections, coordinate guest pickups, assist with loading equipment onto the tender and vessel and packing the necessary food and beverage provisions for the day
* Verify dive certifications and assess guest suitability prior to participation
* Follow all directives from the Skipper to ensure the safe operation of the tender and main vessel
* Conduct guest briefings covering safety protocols, dive procedures, environmental awareness and site information
* Lead certified (Dive Master) or uncertified (Instructor) divers on guided dives, in accordance with agency and company supervision ratios
* Lead or assist with dive training sessions (classroom, pool and ocean) in accordance with agency standards
* Enter the water first and exit last to maintain group control and diver safety, monitor air consumption, depth and time limits and provide assistance to divers where required
* Maintain clear communication with the Skipper regarding dive plans, safety status and environment conditions
* Post-dive, clean and check dive gear, fill cylinders safely and accurately according to procedures and assist with cleaning the vessel, vehicles or classroom
* Assist with serving meals and refreshments, and help to maintain a welcoming, professional atmosphere onboard
* Assist with the training and mentoring of crew as and when required
* Promote a strong safety culture by promptly reporting hazards and incidents
About You
You will be passionate about marine tourism and committed to delivering unforgettable guest experiences. You will have strong decision-making skills with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset, able to work calmly in fast-paced environments as well as be able to pivot quickly in changing conditions or priorities. You will be an effective team player, who is reliable, self-motivated with a commitment to continuous improvement and safety. You will be confident with public speaking and will be a strong swimmer also capable of responding to in-water emergencies if necessary.
To be considered for this role you will have:
* Experience in marine tourism working as a Dive Master or Dive Instructor
* A current Dive Master or Dive Instructor certification
* A current First Aid, CPR and Oxygen Provider certification
* A current Driver's License with LR endorsement (currently hold or be willing to obtain)
* Passenger Transport Driver (PTD) authorisation (currently hold or be willing to obtain)
* WA Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate (currently hold or be willing to obtain)
* Exmouth Shire Food Handling certificate (currently hold or be willing to obtain)
Lastly, an AMSA issued marine qualification such as STCW, CoST, or GPH will be considered highly desirable for the role, as would a background in marine biology or environmental science.
