Purpose
The Community Centres offer a place that create an opportunity for our community to meet,
socialise and connect. They are inclusive hubs of activity in the City of Marion providing
programs and services for all ages and levels of ability.
The Community Centres Child and Family Programs Officer will work with the Coordinator
Programs to plan, develop and deliver community-based programs, groups and activities.
The position is responsible for engaging with internal and external stakeholders to develop
innovative programs that build community capacity, facilitate community connections and
assist with the provision of effective and appropriate children, youth and family services to
the Marion community.
The Community Centres Child and Family Programs Officer will provide administrative and
business support to the Coordinator Programs to ensure processes including the planning,
booking, confirming and promoting of programs, groups and activities are streamlined,
efficient and provide a positive customer experience.
As an ongoing commitment to the organisation, you will be responsible for delivering the
best service to our community and to improve residents' quality life; continuously, smartly
and efficiently in the scope of your daily work.
Key Deliverables
* Develop and implement innovative and flexible programs that foster engagement
and inclusion of children, youth and families.
* Together, with the Coordinator Programs, collaborate with local agencies and
organisations to explore, develop and implement partnerships to ensure that
services are inclusive of children and families.
* Support relevant social research and community engagement processes to increase
understanding of community needs, challenges and aspirations.
* Manage existing and recruit any new skilled tutors, facilitators and volunteers to
support training, in partnership with the Coordinator Programs.
* Maintain and track statistical data to monitor and report on outcomes of programs
and events.
* Provide general customer service as part of the Centre's team which includes working
on the reception desk, answering telephones to assist customers accessing Centre
services, taking bookings and handling cash.
* Be an active member of the Community Centres Team and be available to support
the wider team as deemed necessary.

* Demonstrated ability working with children and families within a multicultural
environment, including First Nations Peoples and people from non-English speaking
backgrounds

* Demonstrated experience in projects, programs and initiatives aimed to engage
children and families.
* Advanced communication skills both written and verbal.
* A tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated experience in a community
development, human services field (preferably with a child/family services focus),
education, early years, or a related field.
* Establish and maintain effective consultation and communication with children and
families, as well as other stakeholders.
* Knowledge of the municipality, culturally diverse communities and agencies including
established networks.
* Good customer service and engagement skills.
* Knowledge of the planning and delivery of community-based projects.
* Ability to set, achieve and monitor goals within specific timeframes.
* Excellent interpersonal skills including interviewing, negotiating, liaison, coordination,
problem solving and conflict resolution.
* Experience in working with and supervising tutors and volunteers.
* Sound organisational and time management skills and the ability to be flexible and
responsible within a multi-demanding team environment.
* High level of proficiency in information technology, including online portals, online
training platforms and Microsoft Office.
* Experience working in a Community Centre / Community Service environment.
* Self-directed, committed and innovative.
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge and understanding of local government
* Relevant experience in Local Government.
* Experience in marketing and promotion.
* Experience in preparation of grant funding submissions, preparation of reports,
budgets, submissions and statistical data.
* Knowledge of current local, state and federal government policies and trends in
relation to community-based programs and services.
Standard conditions
* Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of
Marion)
* Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the
City of Marion)

* Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,
with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.
* Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations and
apply "Think Safe Live Well" philosophy.
* Embrace ethical and moral behavior and report any suspected instances of fraud
and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the
Code of Conduct.
* The incumbent will perform other duties as required.
Other conditions specific to the role
* Must hold a valid, full (unrestricted) driver's license in accordance with South
Australian requirements.
* Some out of hours' work including weekend and evenings will be required.
* The position may be required to work across and City of Marion Community Centre
location.
* This is a prescribed position as defined by the City of Marion Safe Environments for
Children and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Therefore, incumbent must:
o Promote and maintain a child safe environment and take relevant actions in
accordance with council's Safe Environments for Children and Vulnerable
Persons Policy and with legislative requirements under the Children and Young
People (Safety) Act 2017 and the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016.
o Satisfactorily complete a DHS Working with Children Check (to be renewed
every five years) and be willing to undertake Child Safe Training.
