Metrea exists to solve the hardest national security challenges by translating commercial innovation into real-world operational capability. We deliver effects-as-a-service across aerospace, cyber, electromagnetic, and digital domains.
Our Special Air Missions (SAM) Group leads delivery of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Special Mobility, and Aerial Firefighting capabilities. We operate in dynamic environments where readiness, precision, and adaptability matter.
Opportunity
We're looking for a Mission Systems Technician who thrives in technically complex, field-based environments and takes ownership of airborne ISR mission system readiness, sustainment, and troubleshooting.
This role sits at the centre of mission capability — ensuring ISR systems are installed, configured, maintained, and fully operational in support of real-world missions.
You'll work across deployed and home-base environments, supporting integration, testing, and lifecycle sustainment of advanced airborne mission systems.
What You'll Be Doing
* Installing, configuring, and maintaining ISR mission systems including EO/IR sensors, tactical radios, mission computers, radar systems, data links, video networks, and SIGINT equipment
* Performing pre-mission checks, field troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance to ensure mission readiness
* Conducting Windows and Linux system administration including scripting, log analysis, patching, and user management
* Using RF and network test equipment (spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power meters, network analyzers) to isolate faults and validate performance
* Diagnosing RF, power, and IP-based network issues using schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation
* Configuring and troubleshooting TCP/IP networks including routing, subnetting, VLANs, and secure communications links
* Performing software loads, firmware updates, and configuration management aligned to system baselines
* Supporting integration and validation of new hardware and software with engineering and sustainment teamsl>
* Producing technical reports and field feedback to support root cause analysis and lifecycle improvements
* Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure mission success in deployed environments
About You
You are highly technical, self-sufficient, and comfortable operating in austere, high-tempo environments. You bring structure, discipline, and deep systems understanding to complex problems.
You Will Bring
* 3+ years' experience supporting airborne ISR mission systems in field or deployed environments
* Strong understanding of RF systems, radar fundamentals, and mission sensor operations
* Experience with RF test equipment and troubleshooting complex electronic systems
* Solid knowledge of TCP/IP networking including routing, VLANs, and network configuration
* Experience with Windows and Linux system administration in operational environments
* Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
* Strong analytical and fault-finding skills across RF, IP, and power systems
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred
* 6+ years ISR mission systems experience in deployed environments
* Experience with radar modes (GMTI, MMTI, SAR, Weather, etc.)
* Experience with engineering collaboration and system integration activities
Additional Requirements
* Must be an Australian Citizen eligible to obtain or hold an NV1 Security Clearance
* Ability to work independently in field and deployed environments
* Strong written and verbal English communication skills
* Ability to travel up to 50%
* Supervisory responsibilities required in operational settings
Our Culture (Firmware)
* Entrepreneurial – you take ownership and find solutions
* Systematic – you bring structure and discipline
* Discerning – you apply sound technical judgement
* Over-delivering – you go beyond what's expected
Why Join Us?
* Work on cutting-edge airborne ISR mission systems
* Be part of a high-performance, mission-focused engineering team
* Exposure to deployed operational environments and advanced technologies
* Opportunity to directly impact real-world national security outcomes
