About the role

Various Assistant Policy Officer roles are available in the Tertiary Policy team within the NSW Department of Education.

Tertiary Policy provides strategic advice and leads reform in the skills and vocational education and training sector and the NSW higher education sectors.

The Assistant Policy Officer undertakes a range of research, analysis and administrative activities to support the formulation of policy advice and recommendations and contribute to the development of policies that support Agency and/or Government commitments.

Primary purpose of the role

There are three Clerk Grade 5/6 Roles available in Tertiary Policy:

* Assistant Policy Officer in the National Skills Funding and Reform Team
o National Skills Funding and Reform leads strategic policy thinking, negotiation and implementation of Commonwealth-State agreements in the skills and vocational education and training policy area. It also supports reporting obligations under these Commonwealth-State agreements
* Assistant Policy Officer in the National Skills Policy Team
o This role, as part of a broader team, contributes to the development of strategic policy and advice on all aspects of skills and vocational education and training policy in national and state contexts.
* Assistant Policy Officer in the Skills Office
o The Skills Office provides strategic advice and coordination to support the establishment of new skills policy and reform initiatives.

About you

* You will be organised and be able to track and deliver competing deadlines.
* Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
* Tertiary qualifications or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience in a related discipline.

Note: the selection process will include a range of assessment techniques to assist in determining your suitability for the role. Successful candidates will be required to undertake pre-employment screening for this role which includes a National Criminal History Check.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates who are not currently employed by the department will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number. This option would allow the WWCC to naturally expire without further communication needed with the employee. The employer obligations under the WWCC would apply for duration of the WWCC's validity (up to 5 years).
