About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled Remuneration Analyst (EL1) to support a major project within a leading government department. This 12-month contract offers hybrid working in Canberra (with the potential for remote arrangements) and is classified at Executive Level 1, paying $75 per hour + super.
You will bring high-level expertise across HR, accounting, Excel (including PowerQuery), and economic data analysis. The role plays a critical part in shaping remuneration outcomes across more than 100 overseas missions, ensuring defensibility, consistency, and strategic alignment.

Key Responsibilities
* Remuneration Review & Analysis: Lead annual reviews of salaries and benefits; apply actuarial data and market intelligence; advise on special measures in complex environments (e.g. hyperinflation, political instability).
* Model Maintenance & Enhancement: Maintain and improve DFAT's remuneration analysis model (Excel/PowerQuery); ensure scalability and usability across all countries.
* Data Management & Documentation: Ensure completeness and accuracy of data; document assumptions, methodologies, and decision-making processes; prepare defensible records for audit and approval.
* Market Data Procurement: Source and integrate remuneration data from suppliers into the model for comparative analysis.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Senior Officers, Heads of Missions, and external partners; provide strategic advice in complex and sensitive contexts.
* Survey Coordination: Manage the annual remuneration survey process across overseas missions; validate survey returns for accuracy and completeness.
* Strategic Advice & Quality Assurance: Provide high-level advice on remuneration strategy and risk management; contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Professional Representation: Represent the department in professional engagements with suppliers and stakeholders.
About You To succeed in this role, you will bring:
* Strong expertise in remuneration analysis, HR, or accounting.
* Advanced Excel skills (PowerQuery, data modelling, analytics).
* Experience working with remuneration and economic data in complex environments.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to deliver strategic, defensible advice.
* Experience working with government or international organisations (highly desirable).
