What is our Clinical Nurse Specialist – Mental Health Triage role?
As part of the multidisciplinary team provides primary response to referrals made to YouthLink and Youth Mental Health, Clinical Nurse Specialist – Mental Health Triage provides consultation and support to referrers, clients and members of the community who contact the service. This role identifies the nature and appropriateness of referrals and sets priorities for management and collates information for presentation at intake meetings and provides assessment and support for young people and their families/carers experiencing mental health problems. YouthLink is a specialist mental health service for marginalised young people (13-24 years old) who are homeless or experiencing other significant barriers in accessing mainstream mental health services. Such barriers typically include homelessness and transience, limited support networks, cultural barriers including Aboriginal identity, marginalisation due to diverse sexuality and gender, previous negative treatment experiences that result in treatment refusal/resistance. YouthLink provides a welcoming, trauma-informed, flexible approach with assertive case management and outreach to support engagement and retention in treatment.
