About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Coastal Pilotage and Vessel Traffic Services, the Senior Adviser Coastal Pilotage is responsible for regulating pilotage operations in the Torres Strait and Great Barrier Reef compulsory pilotage areas, in accordance with Marine Order 54 (Coastal pilotage). The role provides advice and investigative capacity in relation to coastal pilotage and an operational relationship function with coastal pilots and pilotage providers.
In this role you will:
Administer and support the implementation of AMSA's coastal pilotage regulatory regime in accordance with Marine Order 54 (Coastal Pilotage).
Maintain effective operational liaison with coastal pilotage stakeholders including pilots, pilotage providers, training organisations, industry associations and other government agencies.
Support the operation of the coastal pilot competence framework, including coordinating examination and verification activities, maintaining records, contributing to continuous improvement initiative and overseeing coastal pilotage transits on board.
Provide operational and technical support to coastal pilotage-related meetings, forums and working groups, including preparation of papers, technical input and follow‑up actions, as required.
Investigate incidents/accidents and analysis as required in compulsory pilotage areas
What We're Looking For
You will bring:
A tertiary qualification relevant to the role. For example, a degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science or Naval Architecture.
Extensive experience in the management of vessel navigation in the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait, or other confined waterways or within commercial ports.
Minimum five years' experience in navigation and charting legislative requirements in the Great Barrier Reef & Torres Strait or other confined waters.
Experience in program implementation and quality management systems including auditing.
