Help protect the public and eliminate racism from healthcare
National Boards and Ahpra regulate Australia’s 980,000 registered health practitioners and 180,000 registered students across 16 health professions. These Boards include community members and
practitioner members (who are registered in the relevant profession) and set the professional standards practitioners must meet to be registered and safe to practise.
Ahpra’s role is to protect the public by setting standards and policies that all registered health practitioners must meet.
Cultural safety in the National Law is part of those standards, providing an agreed definition in the codes of conduct for more than 960,000 registered health practitioners.
Ahpra and the National Boards ensure the development of a racism free, culturally safe and respectful health workforce for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples accessing and working in healthcare.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples ways of being, knowing and doing are central to dismantling all forms of racism, systemic, institutional, and interpersonal in healthcare.
Ahpra and the National Boards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Anti-Racism Policy is a significant milestone in enacting our policy and legislative commitment to eliminating racism and ensuring
culturally safe workplaces and healthcare. This policy has been developed by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to create a safe, valued, and respectful environment within Ahpra and the National Boards.
