The Cairns Convention Centre is seeking a Facilities Management Director with strong technical expertise and a solid understanding of the operational requirements of a world-class convention centre.
You’ll be joining a values-driven team that embraces collaboration, strategic thinking, and continuous improvement. The event environment is fast-paced and supportive, offering variety and challenge in equal measure.
In this role, you’ll manage and protect the Centre’s assets while overseeing services related to security, maintenance, and venue presentation. You’ll lead the performance of building systems including HVAC, energy management, compliance, and contractor coordination—ensuring safe, sustainable, and reliable infrastructure that supports every event.
As part of the Executive Team, you’ll lead a group of professionals across Facilities Management, Security, and Venue Presentation.
You will oversee preventative maintenance and asset performance, ensuring our systems meet the evolving needs of clients, staff, and visitors. You’ll also provide strategic advice on future capital investment.

About the Centre
The Cairns Convention Centre is an award-winning venue located on the shores of the Great Barrier Reef. Managed by global venue management company Legends Global, the Centre embodies the essence of a world-class convention centre in one of the world’s most desired destinations.
As the home of major conferences and events in Tropical North Queensland, the Centre hosts a diverse calendar of experiences, from large international and national conferences, concerts, NBL basketball games, banquets and live performances. No two days are the same.
About You
- Experienced in facilities management, building operations, and contractor oversight.
- Robust organisation skills with at least 10 years’ experience in Facilities Management
- Flexible and able to solve problems quickly and accurately
- Enthusiastic and purpose-driven, with a passion for delivering world class asset management.
- A respected collaborator and strong communicator, able to build trust across teams and departments.
- Digitally fluent, comfortable using systems and data to drive decisions.
- Reliable and accountable, with a strong sense of ownership and pride in their work.
- Demonstrated leadership capability and an ability to communicate with all levels of stakeholders
- Capability to actively participate and contribute to the success of the Centre and be an active member of the Executive Committee
