Purpose of position

The Environmental Officer will be an in-house technical environmental officer, responsible for implementing Environmental Processes and specifications on projects including managing engagement and relationships with relevant external authorities.

The Environmental Officer will apply state and commonwealth heritage related legislation and provide pragmatic processes and solutions to ensure appropriate management of environmental issues while enabling clients infrastructure programs.

Additionally, this role supports environmental management strategies, promotes sustainability, and maintains client relationships through effective communication and expertise.

Responsible and Accountable:

* To undertake the roles and responsibilities of an Environmental Officer as part of a Environment and Cultural Heritage Team
* To ensure environmental issues and aspects are managed for the delivery of various projects
* To provide high level technical advice on the management of environmental values
* To undertake environmental assessments and prepare reports and conduct Environmental Inductions as required.

Qualifications and Experience

* University degree in environmental science, applied science, or equivalent in one of the following disciplines: environmental management, ecology, applied or biological sciences.
* 2-5 years or more experience in ecological or environmental projects in a paid or voluntary capacity.
* Being a Suitably Qualified Person for conducting Protected Flora Surveys and fauna surveys is advantageous.
* Having qualifications and competence in Queensland BioCondition is beneficial.
* Understanding in ecological survey methods.
* Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
* Understanding of GIS software including QGIS and ArcGIS.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Current first aid certificate.
* Class C Driver's License.
* Fauna handling and venomous snake handling.
* Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
* Willingness to travel and work away from home for extended periods.
* Ability to work outside for extended periods.
