Lead Digital Strategy and Services at One of Australia's Leading Research Libraries
About the opportunity: The University of Sydney Library is seeking a strategic and experienced Associate Director, Digital Services to provide senior leadership for the library's digital platforms, infrastructure, and technology‐enabled services. Reporting to the Director, Research and Collections, this role is a key member of the library's senior leadership team. The Associate Director leads the Digital Services portfolio and plays a critical role in shaping and delivering digital services that support student learning, research excellence, open scholarship, and long‐term stewardship of digital collections.
This is an opportunity to lead complex digital services in one of Australia's leading research libraries, working closely with University ICT, academic and professional staff, and external partners.
Key responsibilities will be to:
* Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Library's Digital Services team, fostering a high‐performing and collaborative culture.
* Lead planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of the library's digital platforms and infrastructure, including library systems, discovery services, institutional repositories, digital collections, and system integrations.
* Oversee major digital initiatives and programs, ensuring delivery is aligned with Library and University priorities.
* Partner closely with University ICT and other central teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable technology solutions.
* Drive innovation in digital library services, including the adoption of emerging technologies to improve user experience and access to collections.
* Ensure effective governance, risk management, and compliance across digital services, including information security, accessibility, copyright, and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property considerations.
* Contribute to Library‐wide strategy, planning, and change initiatives as a senior leader.
About you
* Demonstrated experience leading enterprise‐scale digital platforms or infrastructure in a complex service environment.
* Proven capability to lead and develop multidisciplinary technical and professional teams.
* Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to translate strategy into practical and deliverable outcomes.
* Experience managing significant projects, vendor relationships, and budgets.
* Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, including working with senior leaders and technical specialists.
* A commitment to inclusive leadership, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
* Experience in libraries, research infrastructure, scholarly communication, or digital collections will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
