Champion community voices. Drive place-based change. Create impact where it matters most.

James Cook University is seeking a Senior Research Officer, Community Engagement to support the delivery of FNQ Connect — a transformative collective impact initiative strengthening disability and rehabilitation services across Far North Queensland.

Based at The Cairns Institute, this role works at the heart of community-led change. You'll collaborate closely with communities across Kowanyama, the Tablelands and Cairns, ensuring lived experience, cultural knowledge and local leadership shape decision‐making and outcomes.

About the role

You will also contribute to high‐quality reporting, presentations and knowledge sharing, represent FNQ Connect at forums and events, and support the initiative's long‐term sustainability through funding and policy‐related work.

About you

You bring a deep commitment to culturally safe practice, experience working alongside Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, and a passion for place‐based approaches that translate evidence into action.
