Job Description
The Principal Mining Engineer – Reserves & Life of Asset Planning role provides technical leadership for the long-term planning and Ore Reserve estimation processes. The position ensures that Life-of-Asset (LoA) schedules and Ore Reserves are prepared to the highest technical standard, aligning with strategic and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the development, review and optimisation of the Life-of-Asset plan, ensuring alignment with the Business Plan, Budget, and S&OP processes.
* Coordinate annual Ore Reserve estimation and reporting in accordance with the JORC Code, ensuring full technical documentation and compliance.
* Collaborate with the Resource Geology, Geotechnical, Ventilation and Mid-Term Planning teams to maintain accurate inputs for reserve and LoA updates.
* Deliver optimised mining sequences, production forecasts, and economic evaluations to support strategic decision-making.
* Undertake and review design trade-off studies, stope design criteria, material handling and infrastructure concepts.
* Lead Deswik-based design, scheduling, and scenario modelling to optimise production, hoisting, paste-fill, and ventilation performance.
* Oversee the Reserve Governance process including Competent Person sign-off, documentation, peer review, and data integrity.
* Analyse operational performance against LoA assumptions, identify variances and provide feedback to planning and operations.
* Provide mentoring and technical direction to Long-Term and Mid-Term Planning Engineers.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to cross-site planning standardisation within Glencore Zinc Assets Australia.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent), 10+ years of experience in underground mine planning, strong exposure to sub-level open-stopping operations, and demonstrated capability in Life-of-Asset / long-term strategic mine planning and Ore Reserve estimation under the JORC Code.
Desirable Skills:
* Proficiency in Deswik.CAD and Deswik.Sched (or equivalent design/scheduling software).
* Ability to sign off as a Competent Person (JORC) for Ore Reserve reporting.
* Proven leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to influence and align multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent communication, problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Strong business acumen with an understanding of financial drivers and optimisation levers.
