About the role The Assistant Manager, TER supports the day-to-day operations of the TER Branch to ensure the delivery of VIT's teacher registration and application assessment functions. The role has direct people management responsibilities and will support individual and team performance by being a people-oriented leader with a focus on coaching staff for success and dealing with performance issues in a timely manner building a strong performance-based culture which empowers people to succeed and enables them to grow professionally being passionate about service delivery and achieving business key performance indicators. The incumbent will use data to monitor and report on registration matters, and to identify and respond to emerging strategic issues. The Assistant Manager, TER will be flexible, responsive, creative, demonstrate initiative and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The role may require overseeing work in relation to sensitive matters, which can involve allegations of child sexual abuse. The role reports directly to the Manager, TER and is a member of the TER leadership team. This role will require you to lead and manage the team to enable effectiveness, efficiency, professional growth and positive engagement coach, train and develop staff - in particular, Team Leaders - to meet their role expectations and professional development goals resolve complex registration application assessments and stakeholder escalations prepare reports, briefings and advice on complex matters for decision makers analyse VIT business system data to identify risks, issues and trends propose, plan and implement effective resourcing and technical solutions provide expert advice about operational and strategic risks, policy and processes. About you As an experienced operational manager you will have sound and practical knowledge of managing a registration / license / membership processing environment that requires the application of complex legislation, policy and process. You will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and ideally a passion for child safety and experience working within the education sector. You will have a highly organised approach and a proven track record in motivating teams to achieve results. In addition to this, as the successful candidate, you will have demonstrated operational management, change management, resource planning and risk management skills to deliver strategic and operational goals well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated expertise in preparing training material, reports, briefings and communications for a range of audiences strong analytical skills, including ability to use data to identify issues and provide workable solutions, and interpret complex legislation / policy to improve, develop and drive processes experience using, and supporting the continuous improvement of, complex customer management system (e.g. Salesforce).
