About the role
Volunteer Manager plays a key leadership role in managing and developing a team of Volunteer Coordinators (VC) who oversee volunteer services across designated business areas. The role ensures alignment with organisational goals, provides strategic leadership to the VCs, and contributes to workforce planning through innovative solutions. It also ensures that volunteer programmes and activities align with the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement set by Volunteering Australia. This is a permanent full‐time role based at St Leonards with hybrid opportunities and requires flexibility to travel to our sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Management and mentoring of Volunteer Coordinators.
* Motivate and guide VC teams within HammondCare's Mission in Action to improve quality of life for those in our care.
* Engage in regular discussions with VCs regarding recruitment, volunteer engagement, service goals, compliance targets, and monthly metrics.
* Responsible for staff recruitment, ongoing management, and exit processes.
* Facilitate annual development meetings with direct reports and provide regular performance feedback.
* Build relationships with assigned Operational Managers to understand strategic priorities and site requirements.
* Under the direction of the Head of Volunteer Services, develop an annual volunteer plan that aligns with HammondCare's Motivation, Mission, and Mission in Action.
* Be the key liaison for all VC issues within the assigned business area.
* Ensure appropriate volunteer systems and processes are in place to support volunteer operations.
* Assess and mitigate risks associated with volunteer activities in collaboration with Quality, Safety & Risk teams.
* Oversee volunteer‐related complaints and performance management.
* Ensure compliance with the Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS) requirements, including reporting and KPI management.
* Support VCs in training, mentoring, and engaging volunteers and ensure consistent communication initiatives.
* Evaluate volunteer satisfaction and implement strategies to enhance retention.
* Represent HammondCare at events, conferences, and external engagements to promote volunteer involvement.
* Evaluate and address training needs for both Volunteer Coordinators and volunteers.
About You
* At least 4 years of demonstrated experience in volunteer program management.
* Certificate IV in Volunteer Coordination or Leadership & Management (preferred).
* Experience managing and mentoring teams.
* Strong relationship‐building and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
* Strong organisational and problem‐solving skills.
* Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* Passion for aged care and community service, health and palliative care.
* Knowledge of and ability to apply the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement (desirable).
* Experience leading a team in a not‐for‐profit or aged care setting (desirable).
