Primary objective
Lead and supervise a team in the delivery of statutory and non-statutory welfare services to individuals, groups and communities in
accordance with relevant legislation and Department of Children and Families program policies and procedures.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Be responsible for the supervision, training and development of a team of staff involved in the delivery of statutory and non-statutory

welfare services.
2. Maintain a high level of services to the Department’s clients through the provision of professional expertise and demonstrated best

practice in the delivery of statutory and non-statutory welfare services.
3. Undertake statutory responsibilities and exercise delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act (2007) and in accordance

with other relevant legislation and departmental policies and procedures.
4. Ensure the availability of reliable data and information through the accurate and timely recording on case management systems.
5. As a member of the leadership team, contribute to the overall management of the office, including data collection, practice standards,

workload trends, program development, community networking and consultation to achieve an integrated best practice approach to
service delivery.

6. Participate in the Department’s After-Hours Service and assist in delivering the Department’s statutory welfare group responses in
accordance with the Emergency Management Act.

7. Maintain safety, provide leadership and make decisions in accordance with the Department’s work, health and safety (WHS) policies
and all relevant legislation including the Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) Act (2002), Public Sector Employment and
Management Act (1993), and the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) Code of Conduct.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive experience commensurate with the duties of the position, including leading a team that is responsible for conducting risk-

based assessments, developing and delivering effective family support and or child protection interventions, and a demonstrated
capacity to apply best practice principles.

2. A demonstrated commitment to cultural safety and providing culturally responsive services to young people and families including
knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures and demonstrated understanding of the historical
and current factors that impact on Aboriginal people.

3. Extensive experience overseeing the delivery of case management services, maintaining effective and collaborate working
relationships with stakeholders to deliver appropriate support services while working within policy and legislative frameworks.

4. Extensive experience in coaching and motivating teams within a human resources context and a demonstrated ability to build capacity,
bring about change and achieve positive outcomes.

5. A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting, including fostering a positive team culture and ensuring
all staff uphold a commitment to ethical conduct, respect and accountability, while remaining resilient in a challenging environment.

6. Highly developed organisational and communication skills including demonstrated experience in managing high volume workloads
with tight deadlines in a dynamic and time critical team environment

7. Ability to travel including in four-wheel drives, light aircraft, and ability to stay overnight in regional and remote locations.
8. Current NT driver’s licence or ability to obtain.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Social Work or a related discipline.

Check. A criminal history will not necessarily exclude an applicant from this position.
3. The Family and Youth Support Team will deliver 24/7 and 365 days per year coverage. The successful applicant will be required to

participate in evening, weekend and public holiday shifts, with appropriate shift penalties attracted.

1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association,

the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of Child, Youth and
Family Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection) or Graduate
Certificate in Safe Communities (Child Protection).
