FEIT Workshop provides access to traditional manufacturing technologies, CNC machines as well as high-end 3D printing and scanning resources along with specialised technical support, linked education, and engagement opportunities.
Job Summary
UTS Engineering workshop is currently seeking an experienced fabricator/manual machinist and CNC operator to support the operation within the workshop facilities. You will support in the fabrication of projects specific to engineering, meeting a high-quality standards to our customer’s specifications. You will be a highly skilled individual with excellent attention to detail and a mechanical aptitude. With an in-depth knowledge of machining fabrication equipment and techniques, also strong welding and sheet metal skills. If you have these skills you will excel in this role. It is essential that you have trade experience with in a fabrication/machining/tooling workshop, good computer and communication skills.
In this role, you will be responsible for:

* Fabricating complex research prototypes using technical fabrication equipment and processes
* Instructing and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate research students on the use of a large number of fabrication equipment and machines within the workshop facilities
* Ensuring all necessary consumable components are available for use
* Helping run induction under the direction of Senior Technical staff, including providing demonstrations on how to run machinery, explaining manufacturing techniques, and supporting students, academics and technical support staff
* Directly support the Senior Technical staff for any workshop duties requiring support
* Performing routine equipment maintenance including; equipment calibration, replacing damaged components, maintaining the cleanliness of equipment, and workshop space.
* Assisting academic and technical staff in performing consulting, research, and calibration work for manufacturing design
* Support the Technical Support Manager with external consultancy function, as required
* Maintaining WSMS for all equipment within the workshop
* Supporting all fabrication facilities at UTS, Workshops, studio space, ProtoSpace

* Broad operation and knowledge of all machines used in a machining workshop
* Specialist skills in at least one relevant technical field gained through practical experience in a similar environment
* The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Be able to work well both in a team environment and individually
* Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills

The Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) is a large and complex faculty with seven schools, research centres, engineering laboratories, IT laboratories and a large technical workshop. In 2018, UTS Tech Lab came online, a university research facility encompassing significant engineering and IT laboratories, which will establish FEIT as a key research leader.
FEIT provides a Technical Support Service based on a consolidated Faculty led model. Technical Support activities are delivered by ‘clusters’ of specialists within the UTS Tech Lab.
The clusters include:
* Workshop and fabrication laboratories (WF)
* Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)
* Mechanical, Manufacturing and robotics (MMR)
* Data, Electrical and Physical Science (DEPS)

Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $83,906 - $95,989 pa (HEW 5)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full time, and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
