Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of safety, risk, governance, and assurance frameworks within Defence maritime projects.
* Ensure compliance with Defence and industry standards, policies, and procedures related to safety and governance.
* Collaborate with engineering teams to assess, manage, and mitigate risks across complex maritime systems and operations.
* Conduct risk assessments, audits, and assurance activities, providing expert advice on risk management strategies.
* Oversee incident investigations, safety performance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Liaise with key stakeholders, including Defence clients, government agencies, and third-party contractors, to ensure alignment with project goals and safety objectives.
* Prepare and deliver high-level reports, presentations, and risk mitigation plans to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Required Skills And Qualifications
* Engineering Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Safety Engineering).
* Proven experience in the Defence sector, ideally with involvement in safety, risk, and assurance activities on complex projects.
* Understanding of Quality Management Systems design, implementation and audit (ISO 9001, 14000, 31000, 55001; OHSAS 18001)
* Experience with System Safety Program development and management
* Strong knowledge of Defence safety standards and governance frameworks.
* Demonstrated experience in leading risk management processes and safety audits in a high-stakes environment.
* Ability to engage effectively with senior leadership and provide clear, concise reporting on risk and safety matters.
* Eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Security Clearance (NV1 or higher).
Desirable Attributes
* Postgraduate qualifications in safety, risk management, or governance.
* Familiarity with Defence procurement and regulatory processes.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex engineering challenges.
* Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
