Job Summary
As a Senior Project Engineer, you will plan, develop, and review design work for both in-house and external design providers. You will own the project's technical scope within the Non‐Process Infrastructure (NPI) area, coordinate production of technical drawings, calculations, specifications, and material take‐offs, and ensure designs comply with all applicable regulations and standards.
Major Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct scope of work and technical specifications for NPI design and field investigations on large‐scale projects.
- Lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of multi‐discipline NPI scope components, using Engineering Department Procedures, design standards, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs.
- Review and approve key design documents, supplier drawings, material specifications, change orders, and bid summaries.
- Control and monitor technical scope, identify scope changes, and participate in project change processes.
- Coordinate and manage external consultant work scopes, progress, and performance.
- Develop conceptual designs for NPI scope areas, including civil/structural, architectural, mechanical/hydraulic, and electrical engineering projects.
- Interview client personnel to determine needs, develop scope for cost estimates, and participate in proposal preparation and presentation.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Interpret new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
- Author multi‐discipline Service Requisitions, participate in the bid‐evaluate‐award cycle, and prepare/review Technical Bid Evaluations.
Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and years of relevant work experience in engineering design for the minerals processing industry.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Leading multi‐discipline engineering design teams within EPC or EPCM environments.
- Experience with minerals handling process plant design, particularly slurry pumping, conveyor systems, chute, tank sizing, and selection calculations.
- Experience with civil non‐process infrastructure engineering delivery and construction support for site roads, pads, and buildings.
- Experience with mechanical and electrical non‐process infrastructure delivery, including air/water/power/communications utilities reticulation and high‐voltage service.
- Experience with Bid‐Evaluate‐Award processes, including preparation of interfacing design‐and‐construct and construct‐only Service Requisitions and their technical bid evaluations.
- Proficiency in MS Office and other common engineering software.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, and proven ability to work in a dynamic multi‐discipline team environment.
- Analytical problem‐solving and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Right to work in Australia without employer sponsorship.
