The Role

The APS 6 Suicide Prevention Project Officer within the Psychosocial Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention Directorate contributes to the development and implementation of suicide prevention initiatives across Defence.

They will require an in-depth knowledge of suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention initiatives in a workplace context, and a desired knowledge of workplace psychosocial risks.

Key duties include:

* Assist with contract management and implementation for key directorate projects, including the Defence suicide postvention framework.
* Contribute to the evaluation of suicide prevention initiatives, including the Defence and Veteran Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Action Plans.
* Review, draft and enact proposals for suicide prevention reform including, but not limited to, reform in response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
* Engagement with internal and external stakeholders to progress work and meet Mental Health and Wellbeing objectives, including Defence Groups and Services, healthcare providers, government and non-government agencies, Department of Veterans' Affairs, research institutions and universities.

About our Team

The Mental Health and Wellbeing (MHW) Branch is the lead for Workforce Mental Health policy and programs and enables the assured and continuous improvement of Mental Health & Wellbeing across the Defence enterprise. The Branch, comprised of military members and civilian employees, forms an inter-disciplinary team focused on improving the mental health and wellbeing of the Defence community. A primary function of the Branch is the facilitation and implementation of the Defence and Veterans' Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy

The Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) within the MHW Branch, is a high-performing team of public health and allied health subject matter experts. The Psychosocial Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention (PWaSP) directorate within SAG provides evidence-based initiatives, insights, and policy guidance to advance Defence's psychosocial and suicide prevention systems.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a highly motivated health professional with a background in suicide prevention and an understanding of workplace psychosocial risks, to build and drive initiatives across the Department.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following capabilities:

* Able to translate suicide prevention research into practice.
* Compile, analyse and interpret suicide prevention data to inform continuous improvement.
* Engage internal and external stakeholders to progress mental health and wellbeing objectives.
* Work effectively in an integrated environment to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships.
* Able to prepare briefings, proposals, and reports informed by evidence-base best practice and research.
