The Position: An opportunity exists for a Specialist Infectious Diseases (ID) Physician to join the team as either a Staff Specialist or as Head of Department of Infectious Diseases.
The role includes providing specialist ID care, inpatient and outpatient consultations, participation in critical care rounds, research, teaching, and leadership of the Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
For suitably qualified candidates, there is the option to incorporate a Clinical Microbiology component.
Health Service: This is a major regional referral health service with more than 330 beds, including a tertiary Intensive Care Unit.
It provides a wide range of acute specialist medical and surgical services, with strong teaching and research links to a medical school and research foundation.
The service places emphasis on clinical excellence, innovation, and collaboration to achieve better outcomes for patients and the broader community.
Location: The role is based in one of Australia’s most liveable regional cities.
The area offers a vibrant lifestyle with a UNESCO-recognised food and wine culture, a thriving arts and theatre scene, and close proximity to world-class wilderness, mountain biking trails, and golf courses.
The city is family-friendly, with strong education and transport links, including regular direct flights to major capital cities.
Responsibilities Provide specialist Infectious Diseases care with inpatient and outpatient consultations.
Participate in critical care rounds as part of the multidisciplinary team.
Lead and contribute to teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
Lead the Antibiotic Stewardship Program; contribute to hospital-wide antimicrobial governance.
For suitably qualified candidates, option to incorporate a Clinical Microbiology component.
Essential Criteria Fellowship training in Infectious Diseases (FRACP) or equivalent qualifications.
Eligibility for specialist medical registration in Infectious Diseases.
Proven leadership experience in clinical settings.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Commitment to teaching, mentoring, and research.
Experience with quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Current Working with Children Registration (if required for the role).
The Package Permanent full-time role (up to 76 hours per fortnight) with part-time options.
Total package from approx.
$484,000 p.a., with higher earnings depending on seniority.
Base salary: $216,300 – $310,389 p.a. + 12% superannuation.
Benefits include salary packaging, vehicle allowance, CPD allowance, relocation support, study leave, and Fitness Passport access.
