About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Supervisor Geotechnical Engineer – Underground Operations to join the Geotechnical Operations team at Cadia, one of Australia's largest underground mining operations. Reporting to the Superintendent Geotechnical Operations, this role is accountable for geotechnical hazard management across operating panel cave and infrastructure areas, supporting weekly, rolling monthly plan and quarterly planning timeframes to ensure safe and efficient underground production. This is a leadership role with direct responsibility for developing and guiding a high‐performing geotechnical team while partnering closely with mining, planning, and operational stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead geotechnical hazard management for underground operations, including rockfall, seismicity, inrush, airblast, and subsidence.
* Execute and maintain geotechnical monitoring systems for operating caves and production infrastructure.
* Undertake field verification of controls, safety audits, risk assessments, and JSEAs aligned with Fatal Risk Management (FRM).
* Provide geotechnical inputs to weekly, RMP, and quarterly mine planning.
* Deliver clear, accurate geotechnical hazard reporting and draw strategy advice to operational and planning teams.
* Maintain and implement geotechnical standards, TARPs, procedures, and risk documentation.
* Lead, coach, and develop Geotechnical Engineers and Graduate Engineers.
* Support technical studies and projects to defined schedules.
About You
You will be a technically strong geotechnical engineer with underground mining experience and a collaborative leadership style. Additionally you will have demonstrated strong working knowledge of rock mass classification systems, ground support design, underground geotechnical hazard identification and risk management, ground and seismic monitoring systems. Proficient in Leapfrog, Deswik and other CAD based mine planning software, RocScience and numerical modelling tools (RS2/RS3, FLAC3D, Abaqus), as well as Microsoft Office applications.
You Will Also Bring
* Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical, Mining, or Civil Engineering.
* Demonstrated experience in underground mine or geotechnical engineering.
* Experience managing geotechnical engineers or technicians.
* Strong communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Current Australian C‐class driver's licence (manual).
Job Details
Monday to Friday or 9‐day fortnight roster. Unrestricted Australian working rights required.
