**About the role**

The purpose of the Youth Residential Support Worker role is to provide a safe and caring environment, assisting the live-in Senior Residential Care Worker to support the young person to de-escalate and regulate their emotions when required, help to develop independent living skills and help the young person re-engage in education and their community.

Various shifts covering 24/7

**Responsibilities**:

- Promote and assist young people to achieve goals identified in Individual Case Plans
- Assist young people to develop independence and build community networks
- Support the young person's interests
- Establish a rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes
- Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally
- Domestic duties and supporting the young person to learn how to look after themselves eg cooking, housework, laundry
- Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately
- Medication administration (when required)
- Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping

**Skills & Experience**
- Certificate in Youth Work, Mental Health, or relevant qualification (or willing to work towards qualifications)
- Experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern
- Ability to demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders
- Demonstrate confidentiality and have strong understanding of professional boundaries
- Experience working with young people from indigenous or other cultural backgrounds (advantageous)
- A current First Aid Certificate (must have prior to commencing employment)
- A current unrestricted Drivers Licence
- **Desirable: Experience with behavioural management approaches including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), positive behaviour support, trauma and attachment, Sanctuary or CARE residential models **(we have inhouse training we will put you through)
