Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer Role
This role is a vital support position for our teaching team, focused on delivering education programs that cater to the diverse needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Key Responsibilities:
* Developing culturally responsive education programs in collaboration with teachers and community members.
* Mentoring and providing pastoral care to encourage student participation and achievement.
* Providing support and advice to schools and teachers on managing students at risk, including behaviour management planning.
* Facilitating community contributions to school policies and practices related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
* Conducting interviews and home liaison visits to build strong relationships with families and communities.
* Managing classroom resources and supporting the maintenance of a positive learning environment.
* Preparing and maintaining records, reports, and other documentation as required.
Requirements:
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, languages, social and cultural protocols.
* Proven ability to develop and deliver culturally responsive education programs that promote student engagement and wellbeing.
* Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact with students, parents, teachers, and community members.
* Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and other stakeholders to achieve educational goals.
* Knowledge and understanding of building culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
