Data platform & governance lead

Offer description

About the role Our client, a Sydney-based critical infrastructure business, is hiring a Data Platform & Governance Lead to own delivery of two foundational programmes running in parallel: a Microsoft Purview implementation that establishes the organisation's information governance, PII, and DLP posture, and a Databricks-based enterprise data platform with Power BI reporting on top. This is an outcome-ownership role, not a pure delivery-management appointment or a hands-on engineering-build role. You will own the outcome of both programmes, hold suppliers accountable for technical delivery, and drop in personally where your judgement and design instinct make the difference. What will you own End-to-end outcome of both programmes (Purview and Databricks) to budget, scope, and timeline. The Microsoft Purview rollout, working with an external IT delivery partner and Legal to shape classification regimes, sensitivity labels, DLP rules, and the post-implementation roadmap of flags and compliance reporting. Scoping, chartering, and shaping the Databricks platform programme in parallel with Purview, engaging the right external delivery partner, and subsequently owning delivery to plan. Design of a Power BI reporting suite over Databricks, with a fresh look at business progress reporting as the foundation use case. Translating technical work into the risk, capability, and value language an executive audience needs. What you will bring Demonstrated outcome ownership of data platform or information governance programmes in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, or a closely comparable information governance, DLP, or sensitivity labelling platform. You will need to design classification regimes, not just deploy the tool. Working knowledge of modern cloud data platforms, ideally Databricks. Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or equivalent acceptable. Proven supplier and stakeholder management across complex multi-party delivery (internal teams, IT partners, external implementation partners, Legal). Strong workshop facilitation, particularly with Legal and risk functions on classification and compliance design. Strong executive communication, comfortable translating technical detail into business risk and capability language. Comfort with AI-augmented ways of working, using modern AI tooling (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar) as a standard part of how you scope, document, and oversee delivery. High agency, commercial pragmatism, and the judgement to know when to lead from the front and when to delegate. Desirable Experience with Power BI or comparable BI tooling, particularly designing reporting suites over a modern data platform. Microsoft ecosystem certifications (Purview, Azure, Power Platform) or Databricks certifications. Background that bridges consulting and in-house delivery. Exposure to Cyber and Information Security work, particularly in the context of AI risks and capabilities. Sector experience in telecommunications, infrastructure, asset management, digital infrastructure, or commercial property. What this role is not A pure programme management or PMO position. A security-only appointment without data platform or governance ownership. How to apply Please include a CV and a short note on your most relevant Purview and data platform delivery experience.
