Primary objective
Responsible for dispensing and distribution of medicines, purchasing, inventory management, and ward based clinical activities
under the supervision of a pharmacist, on a rotational basis.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Perform specified tasks as per duty statement for the individual position
2. Assist in dispensing prescriptions, non-sterile manufacturing and pre-packing to be checked by a pharmacist.
3. Assist with the management and dispensing of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) medicines, Highly Specialised Drugs
(HSD), Efficient Funding of Chemotherapy (EFC) and Special Access Scheme (SAS) products.
4. Assist with the coordination of prescriptions, medication lists and medicines between the hospital pharmacy, community
pharmacies and outside agencies under the direction of a pharmacist including site visits as required.
5. Undertake bulk medicine distribution and answer non-clinical questions relating to supply, storage and availability.
6. Co-ordinate inventory management within the pharmacy department including purchasing, receipt of products, invoice
reconciliation, allocation of stores duties to other technical staff, and liaison with couriers and suppliers.

2. Undertake regular dispensary sessions and participate in paid weekend and public holiday roster.

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Completion of Certificate III (or equivalent) in Health Systems Assistance – Hospital Pharmacy, or the ability and willingness to
complete this within 18 months of commencement.
1. Sound knowledge and understanding of Northern Territory Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act and Regulations
and how they impact on pharmacy.
3. Knowledge and experience in hospital pharmacy dispensing and interpretation of prescriptions, stock control, and experience
with relevant information technology systems (e.g. Merlin and Microsoft Office)
4. Experience in dispensing prescriptions under the PBS and knowledge of the HSD, EFC and SAS programs, and their
claiming/reporting requirements.
5. High attention to detail, good arithmetic, problem solving, time management and prioritisation skills, ability to meet deadlines
and work unsupervised.
6. Excellent communication (written and oral) and negotiation skills and perform as an effective team member.
7. Commitment to self-development and demonstrated ability to supervise and teach other staff and students.
8. Ability to perform stock distribution duties involving lifting items up to 12kg in a repetitive and safe manner
9. Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
