A newly created position has arisen for an experienced senior lawyer, company secretary and governance professional to lead the governance function of a highly successful and respected Australian organisation. With a diverse portfolio of entities, this is a rare role that combines legal, strategic influence, hands‑on leadership, and the chance to shape a high‑performing function within an organisation that truly speaks for itself.
Working closely with this highly reputable General Counsel you will lead the company secretariat function and act as the primary governance advisor across the group. You will work closely with boards, committees, and senior stakeholders, ensuring the highest standards of statutory compliance, governance, and corporate integrity.
You will lead a capable and committed team of strong performers and your leadership will focus on streamlining workflows, strengthening policy frameworks, embedding best practice governance ensuring all compliance and statutory obligations are met across the varied portfolio.
This role will lead the group company secretariat, as well as supplement legal team resourcing support to the broader business when required, making it ideal for an experienced senior lawyer, company secretary and governance professional who enjoys variety and thrives in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Advise boards, committees and the wider group on all governance, and statutory compliance and undertake Company Secretary responsibilities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain and enhance governance and compliance frameworks, policies, workflows, and reporting processes.
Provide training and guidance to directors, executives, and internal teams on governance best practice.
Support the wider portfolio with legal and commercial transaction work.
Drive continuous improvement across the function, ensuring governance and compliance remain efficient, and robust.
Manage and mentor a high‑performing team, fostering capability, collaboration, and excellence.
We would like to speak with senior lawyers who bring a strong blend of legal, governance and compliance expertise, and leadership experience. You will enjoy being hands‑on while also shaping strategy and influencing senior stakeholders and have a minimum of 10+ years' experience in governance, company secretariat, and corporate legal roles and have a Chartered Secretary qualification.
