Part-time Statutory Appointment (Up to 5 Years)
The Australian Government is seeking applications from suitably qualified and dedicated individuals for appointment as the Inspector-General of Biosecurity (IGB) for a term of up to five years, commencing late October 2025.
The statutory office of the IGB was established to provide independent oversight of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry's biosecurity functions. The role supports assurance and accountability across Australia's biosecurity risk management systems by reviewing the performance of departmental officials and the exercise of statutory powers under the Biosecurity Act 2015.
In consultation with the Director of Biosecurity (the Agriculture Secretary) and the Minister for Agriculture, the IGB sets an annual review program and undertakes independent evaluations of the appropriateness and effectiveness of risk management programs across the entire biosecurity continuum. The successful candidate will be appointed on a part-time basis, with current remuneration set by the Remuneration Tribunal at $1,475 per day (capped at 175 days per year) and Tier 2 travel provisions. For more detail, visit www.remtribunal.gov.au.
