The Opportunity
Join a dedicated team responsible for ensuring Wollongong City Council's buildings remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose. Working within the Buildings & Facilities area of City Works, you'll collaborate with Senior Project Managers, Coordinators, maintenance teams, planners, contractors and specialist consultants to deliver compliance focused projects that make a meaningful difference to our community.
You'll work hands on across building compliance activities including fire safety, statutory approvals, certification processes and condition based works. You'll contribute directly to Council's long term compliance uplift and asset performance. Your role connects you with a wide group of internal stakeholders as well as external contractors and regulatory bodies.
This is a 3 year Fixed Term Contract position with the possibility of extension or permanency. Salary from $106,378 up to $132,921. A 3.5% Civil Liability allowance may also apply. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).
You may be required to work flexible hours including being on call, overtime or weekends, dependent on operational requirements.
How you'll make a difference
Every project you deliver enhances the safety, compliance and long term viability of Council's assets. This role will see you:
* Coordinate building compliance tasks across a broad range of Council assets, including fire safety and essential safety measures
* Interpret compliance reports and certification requirements and translate findings into actionable project activities.
* Assist in managing consultant and contractor engagement, contract administration and project scheduling.
* Prepare and maintain compliance documentation, statutory approvals, construction certificates and audit records.
* Monitor project progress, risks and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.
* Support WHS, environmental and quality management processes throughout project phases.
* Build productive relationships across City Works, Infrastructure Strategy & Planning, operational building managers, and external service providers.
About you
You are a compliance focused project professional with established capability coordinating building compliance activities across a diverse asset portfolio. You bring a relevant degree (e.g., Engineering or Building & Construction) or a tertiary qualification (e.g., Cert IV in Carpentry/Joinery) paired with directly related experience and a current, valid Class C driver licence.
You bring experience with:
* Statutory compliance (NCC, BCA, WHS)
* Contractor and consultant management
* Coordinating certification and statutory approval processes
* Delivering compliance driven project outcomes in complex environments
