Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator | Full-time Role Opportunity to play a key role in the growth and success of the organisation Work with a dedicated and supportive team An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual with experience in infection prevention and control to join our senior leadership team. The position is key to the hospital's success and requires both leadership and management skills.
As the Infection Prevention and Control Nurse, you will have a minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience and will be expected to provide leadership and direction on Infection Prevention and Control issues to support the strategic goals, daily operational processes, and accreditation efforts of the hospital.
You will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating Infection Prevention and Control procedures, practices, and standards for Newcastle Private Hospital.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the Infection Prevention and Control Program for the site. Ensuring all clinical staff and accredited Visiting Medical Officers are aware of the program and receive regular updates. Chairing or acting as secretary for the Infection Control Committee and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee. Conducting data collection and surveillance activities across the facility, with regular updates to Unit Managers. Ensuring mandatory reporting to the Department of Health Communicable Diseases Unit, establishing, monitoring, and evaluating relevant processes. Providing guidance and assistance during infectious outbreaks within the hospital. Participating in external regional Infection Prevention and Control initiatives, including the HSP National IFC Working Party Committees and potentially the Department of Health. Auditing compliance with Infection Prevention and Control Standards for on-site clinical contractors. Providing recommendations for improvements as identified. Liaising with Department Managers on Infection Prevention and Control issues, KPIs, policy development, auditing, and staff training. Maintaining a central staff vaccination record database, monitoring, and updating it. Administering staff vaccinations offered by the hospital. Participating in monthly staff orientations. Planning and delivering infection control education to staff and Medical Officers. Acting as a resource in infection prevention and control, developing strong partnerships with Department Managers and the HS&W Coordinator. Supporting quality improvement initiatives and accreditation efforts. Keeping all related systems updated. Minimum Requirements: Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Div 1). Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Infection Control. Ability to build productive relationships with department managers. Strong report writing and statistical analysis skills. Ability to prioritize, set goals, and develop plans to meet organizational targets. Educational and auditing skills. Knowledge of the National Safety and Quality Healthcare Standard. Current Immunisation Certificate or working towards it. Management diploma or certification, or working towards it.
