Benalla P-12 College is located in the Rural City of Benalla which is ideally located close to the Victorian snowfields and the major centres of Wangaratta and Shepparton. The town is surrounded by quality wineries and a variety of natural environments, with the Murray River only an hour away. Melbourne is easily reached in two hours along the Hume Freeway and the Melbourne to Wodonga railway line also runs through the city.
Benalla P-12 College was established in January 2013 as a result of the merger of all four government schools in Benalla. The College has a student population of approximately 870. We provide a vibrant teaching and stimulating learning environment that commences with Grade Prep and continues through the secondary years to VCE and VCAL.
Our College structure from 2025 will have 3 separate sites across the town:
Avon Campus (P-6)
Waller Campus (P-6)
Faithfull Campus (7-12)
Each site has an Assistant Principal and there is also a College Principal.

Role
Attendance during some school holidays periods may be required to fulfill this role.
The Gardener / Maintenance Officer fulfils an important role having responsibility for the presentation, upkeep and maintenance of school facilities and grounds.
It is important for the Gardener / Maintenance Officer to operate in a consistent, professional, courteous and efficient manner at all times. It is expected that the Gardener / Maintenance Officer will be competent in the provision of gardening and maintenance services and the safe use of tools and equipment to undertake the role.
Responsibilities
* Liaise directly with Facilities Manager and regularly with the Business Manager
* Undertake regular gardening and maintenance across all campuses as directed by the Facilities Manager, Business Manager and Principal/Assistant Principals.
* Pick up any rubbish around the grounds
* Empty outdoor bins on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
* Blower-vac pathways and entrance areas on Mondays and Wednesdays (or as required)
* Mow and edge lawns as required, including nature strips.
* Prune shrubs and trees as necessary and keep pathways clear of excess growth.
* Ensure all trees adjacent to buildings are kept lopped away from roof line.
* Support planting and remodelling of gardens as required, including any newly established gardens or curriculum based initiatives.
* Remove fallen trees or limbs within level of expertise. A tree-lopper will be employed for major pruning and tree removal.
* Maintain and secure hoses, sprinklers, pumping equipment and watering systems.
* Sweep drains and remove rubbish to ensure adequate drainage.
* Asphalt areas required for PE use are to be cleaned with a blower-vac as required to ensure the safety of class activities.
* Coordinate the control of pests and vermin on school grounds and in buildings as required in conjunction with the Facilities Manager and/or Business Manager.
* Move furniture and equipment as required.
* Purchase items required to undertake gardening/maintenance tasks under the direction of the Facilities Manager and/or Business Manager who will raise purchase orders.
* Undertake minor maintenance eg repair door hardware, boarding of broken windows, relighting pilot lights and checking minor heater or air conditioner issues, plaster repairs and painting within level of expertise.
* Remove graffiti as soon as possible after detection.
* Replace light globes/tubes.
* Other duties at the discretion of the Principal
