Aila Rose Melasecca Barristers & Solicitors is a boutique law firm based in South Yarra however we also have a Gold Coast Office.

The firm is comprised of a team of three – One Principal Solicitor, one Junior Solicitor and one Paralegal, who all work closely together to deliver first‐class legal support to our clients.
Our main practice areas are Migration, Commercial and Family Law, as well as offering General Law Practice in a wide range of areas.
We are looking for one Casual Paralegal to join our team and assist our Principal with the management of Family law matters.
This role requires the candidate to work a minimum of 2 days per week (ideally 3 days per week).
Responsibilities
* Assist solicitors in managing client files and maintaining accurate records in Smokeball.
* Prepare and lodge court documents through the Commonwealth Courts Portal, including Initiating Applications, Responses, Affidavits, and Financial Statements.
* Draft correspondence to clients, counsel, experts, and the Court.
* Schedule client appointments, conferences, mediations, and court appearances.
* Respond to client queries professionally and promptly, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
* Prepare and index disclosure lists, briefs to counsel, and hearing materials.
* Review and summarise evidence, subpoena returns, and reports (for example, Family Reports, Child Impact Reports).
* Assist in the preparation of settlement documents and consent orders.
* Conduct legal and factual research relevant to family law proceedings.
* Maintain filing, scanning, and document management systems.
* Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including compliance with timelines and court directions.
* Track key dates such as court mentions, filing deadlines, and family dispute resolution sessions.
* Assist with billing preparation, costs disclosure, and client onboarding documentation.
Please note that you may also be required to work on other matters within the firm outside of family law (migration, commercial, probate and general law matters) therefore candidates from these backgrounds still have the potential to be considered.
Skills and Experience
Essential
* Tertiary qualification in law, legal studies, or related discipline (you can be completing such qualification)
* Minimum 1–2 years' experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, ideally in family law.
* Strong knowledge of Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) and Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) procedures.
* Competence in the Commonwealth Courts Portal and Smokeball.
* High level of attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, manage and contact clients, and build effective working relationships at all levels.
* Discretion, professionalism, and empathy when dealing with sensitive issues.
Desirable
* Experience liaising with barristers, independent experts, and court staff.
* Familiarity with cost disclosure requirements and Legal Profession Uniform Law provisions.
* Speaking of a second language
