With over a century of mining history, Darlot mine is a cornerstone operation of Vault Minerals Limited producing high-grade gold production. With a strong legacy, Darlot is focused on the future, optimising production and driving exploration programs to extend the mine's lifespan and uncover new resources. The Darlot mine is located about 900 km northeast of Perth and 121 km north of Leonora, in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia.

Reporting to the Underground Manager, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for optimising mine infrastructure development by applying advanced rock mechanics principles at Vault Minerals. This role also provides expert geotechnical guidance to support mine design and planning.

The position will be offered on an 8:6 FIFO roster from Perth.


Key Responsibilities

* Develop & implement standards & procedures in respect to ground stability, ground monitoring, control and mine infrastructure.
* Participate in planning and production meetings and updates; assist in compiling the weekly production plan, highlighting exclusion timeframes for blasting activities and rehabilitation works required.
* Documentation of rock mass behaviour and stope performance.
* Champion the seismic monitoring system for the underground workings, communicate and analyses data collected. Ensure the advancement for the Seismic network meets the expansion of the mine.
* Setup a numerical model for the underground workings in order to proactively assess budget stope shapes and counsel mine engineers in geotechnical concerns.
* Co‑ordinate biannual external Geotechnical Consultant visits in order to enhance technical skills as well as assisting in the assessment of new mining methods, standards and preventative ground controls for the mine.
* Conduct regular checks of the seismic monitoring system for the underground workings, analyse the data produced and communicate outcomes.
* Conduct geotechnical data collection and analysis for ground support and stope design criteria.
* Conduct Ground Control Audits, providing methods for addressing key concerns and compliance to check scaling plans.
* Conduct QA/QC Ground Support Audits, to ensure compliance to the Ground Support Standards.
* Be the key technical advisor in all aspects of backfill methodologies, planning, engineering, and execution.
* Produce and submit Geotechnical data and information for EOM Reports.
* Continually measure and visually assess the stability of the key pillars in the mine.
* Co‑ordinate geotechnical data collection and analysis for ground support and stope design criteria, maintain this knowledge base in front of the LOM Schedule.
* Coordinate (with external and internal personnel) a yearly revision of the Principal Mine Hazard Management Plan in order to align the operation with changing ground conditions and industry standards.
* Actively promote and continually train the underground crews on the importance of ground support and 'reading the ground.


About You

* Bachelor of Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering or Science with a Geotechnical specialisation or related equivalent tertiary degree.
* Proven experience in a similar role within an underground mining environment, with demonstrated expertise in advanced geotechnical and underground mining practices.
* Excellent knowledge of the statutory requirements of the Western Australian Mining Act and Regulations, as well as the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act.
* Ability to evaluate underground mining conditions and environments, with a proven capacity to lead technical teams, foster robust technical discussions, and communicate effectively across all levels.
* Proficient in the use and application of MS Office Suite, Rocscience software (RS3D, Unwedge, and Dips), IMS Suite, mXrap, Deswik, and similar CAD tools for geotechnical analysis and design.
* Hold a WA Driver's License (manual C Class).
