Deflector Operation consists of two high-grade, narrow vein Gold/Copper mines, located 160km east of Geraldton. The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes, namely the Deflector and Deflector South West deposits.
Reporting to the Metallurgy Superintendent, the Graduate Metallurgist is to provide technical support to the operations team to enable the safe, efficient, sustainable and cost-effective extraction of ore treated in the Deflector Processing plant. The role will support the metallurgy team by ensuring accurate dataset management and analysis to enable short- and long-term strategies that maximise the processing plant's output.
The position will be offered on an 8:6 FIFO roster from Perth.
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
* Support the Plant Metallurgists to monitor and advise on the day to day technical results of the process plant to ensure production objectives are achieved
* Ensure all tasks allocated are completed in an acceptable and timely manner.
* Assist with Processing area audits as required.
* Support Metallurgists to maintain optimum output for the processing plant by monitoring and advising on adjustments to operating variables and equipment during each shift as required.
* Provide feedback on any discrepancies or poor specification outputs to Metallurgy team in a timely manner.
* Assist with communicating performance issues and changes to the plan to all stakeholders.
* Assist with and independently prepare written reports of testing, trials and reviews.
* Provide support with managing trials and tests of new technology to optimise costs and efficiency of the process.
* Learn to operate all sections of the process plant, including crushing, grinding, flotation and dewatering.
* Assist in production and shipment forecasting and budgeting as required.
* Look for continuous improvement opportunities (better work practices/methods, improved longevity of consumables, cost reductions, etc) in all aspects of plant operation and data recording.
* Ensure all shift log sheets are correctly recorded, and that data transfer to metallurgical accounting systems are correct.
About You
* Recognised tertiary qualifications in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering (or equivalent)
* Developing an understanding of the statutory requirements of the Western Australian Mining Act and Regulations, as well as the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act.
* Demonstrates outstanding attention to detail and possesses strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Vacation work experience within the Mining industry, ideally within Gold Mining, will be highly regarded.
* Proficient computer skills in MS Office Suite.
* Hold a current WA Driver's License (manual C Class).
* Currently possess or willing to enhance skills by obtaining these qualifications in confined space entry, gas testing, and working at heights.
