About the Role
The Technical Services Engineer (Audio, Lighting and IT) is responsible for providing and maintaining audio, recording, lighting, staging equipment, pre/post-production and IT support services to staff, students and HVGS approved community events both on and off-campus.
HVGS has a vibrant and diverse performing arts culture rich in inclusivity and collaboration. With over 35 large and small performing ensembles from years K-12, including vocal, instrumental and musical theatre opportunities for students.
The students perform a wide range of musical styles from "Classical" through to Jazz and Rock with explorations into Electronic Music performance. Performances enhance and foster artistic and cultural awareness at many of our frequent school events, which occur both in and out of normal school hours, on and off campus.
From intimate performances to larger school productions and musicals, the Technical Services Engineer (Audio, Lighting and IT) is crucial in bringing these student performances to life.
Work Pattern: This position is a permanent, full-time role, working 38 hours per week Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30 pm with a 54-minute lunch break.
Key Duties
* Provide professional sound and lighting for all HVGS performances, productions, functions, and associated rehearsals
* Assist the Performing Arts staff in the achievement of syllabus outcomes and pre-vocational support which could include the HVGS Student Tech Team and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP) and Careers Program (CP)
* Provide high quality audio recording, pre/post production services for student performance, feedback, assessment and formal submission
* Assist in the supervision of contracted audio/lighting/videography crew who provide additional support required for school events and productions
* Effective and punctual provision, set up, test, and pack down of Audio and Lighting equipment for all School events both on and off-campus, including but not limited to assemblies, information sessions, and guest speakers
* Ensure self-managed and advanced sound and lighting systems are checked daily to ensure systems are working for staff in key venues across the School
* Supervise and maintain sound and lighting equipment in liaison with the School's IT Department and external school approved organisations, this includes the recommendation and substantiation of new equipment acquisition;
* Maintain current knowledge, awareness, and execution of safe industry work practices at all times in liaison with HVGS Compliance Policies
* Establish, organise and maintain safe, orderly and effective work spaces specific to venues, wings and storage areas
* Supervise the installation of new audio and lighting equipment by outside contractors/suppliers
* Liaise with Director of ICT, Director of Music, and Head of Drama in the preparation of annual AV budgets
* Effective methods of communication to ensure proactive, accurate, efficient and documented workflows to assist and support all staff
* Preparing, documenting, implementing and reviewing AV practices, workflows and standard operating procedures in consultation with the Director ICT and Director of Music
* Proactively support staff with audio, lighting, and staging issues, identifying problems and seeking prompt, compliant solutions or alternatives; and
* Provide IT Support under the instruction of the Director of ICT
* Any other relevant duties to the position as directed.

About You
Essential:
* Certificate IV Music Industry (CUA40915) or equivalent
* Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TAE40116)
* Experience and understanding of professional industry standards in AV systems, equipment and implementation
* Demonstrated understanding of compliance procedures and working with children, teaching and support staff in an educational setting
* Experience with operating sound recording, audio pre/post-production, and lighting systems for live and pre-recorded events and in working in the audio-visual section of a facility, preferably within a school
* Interest and experience in the use of current digital audio and lighting technologies (software and equipment)
* Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with both staff and students, and to carry out each of the duties listed autonomously, with a minimum of supervision, including quality customer service
* Exemplary time management and organisational skills
* Demonstrated initiative and informed quality decision making experience to enhance and develop the audio and lighting facility and practices into the future
* Committed to the identification of the school's changing needs and ability to respond with a professional work ethic to create relevant proposals
* Demonstrated willingness and preparedness to support and enhance the wide variety of performance and School events occurring both in and outside of normal School hours.
Desirable:
* Experience in a school or educational environment
* Awareness of Performing Arts curriculum in schools and associated educational outcomes
* Industry networks to support vocational training opportunities for students, and planning for the development of AV infrastructure at HVGS
* Working knowledge of Allen & Heath mixing consoles, large venue sound systems and Q-Lab lighting systems
* Rigging Certificate and
* Working at Heights Certificate.
